At your request, Mitchell Environmental, PA, has completed an investigation of seasonal high water table
(SHWT) depth for Phase 8 of Cane Creek Subdivision, located on Waxwing Drive in Snow Camp,Alamance
County(GPIN:9707291282). At your direction,this investigation was limited in scope to three existing
SCMs on the site, as illustrated on the attached drawing. The investigation was completed on October 22,
2024.
Depth to SHWT was determined using accepted soil science practices. A hand auger was used to advance
vertically into the native soil until redoximorphic features (often mistakenly called'mottles')with a chroma of
2 or less were observed, or until the boring is otherwise terminated. True mottles that meet this color
criterion that are the result of parent material coloration are ignored, as these are not indicative of the
seasonal high water table.
Two hand auger borings were advanced in the dry floor of existing SCMs,while a third boring was advanced
just downslope of the SCM dam, due to ponded water in the SCM. Chroma 2 redoximorphic features
indicative of the SHWT were not observed in either of the dry SCM borings; however, chroma 2
redoximorphic features were observed downslope of the ponded SCM. Table 1 below lists SHWT depth
below the existing soil surface,as well as approximate SHWT elevation.
