Conversion of Lagoon to Waste Storage Pond designation
David B. Williams
Director
This letter is to formally request the change of Simpson's Eggs Inc. Lagoon to a Waste Storage Pond
designation. The reason for the request is so Simpson's Eggs can pump below the stop pump during times
of drought onto the fescue fields in their waste plan.
Justification for the change in designation follows:
Simpson's Eggs has installed a solid separator on the wash water line before flow enters the lagoon which
captures any potential solids. As a result, only liquid is going into the lagoon. The nutrient value of the
wastewater from the egg washing is minute, rendering the need for the waste structure to function as a
lagoon void. This is evident by the attached sludge surveys which show no increase in sludge. If you
need any additional information to assist in the conversion to a Waste Storage Pond please feel free to
contact me.
Sincerely,
Cindy M. Safrit, PE
