Tom and Anthony:
You can read in the email below that Dave Kimmel is leaving ECU and heading to Seattle. That will be an unfortunate
loss for us all, however we believe that Dave's role will transition smoothly to Dr. Enrique Reyes of the ECU Dept. of
Biology/ Institute for Coastal Science and Policy. I have attached Dr. Reyes complete CV. Dave has agreed to write his
portion of the creeks report for the 2015 sampling year and also participate this year in the August Science Panel
meeting by conference call.
Speaking of the Science Panel, I am working with our outside environmental counsel on draft agreement language for
appointing and compensating Science Panel members going forward.

Subject:News
Good morning all,
1
I have some news concerning my position at ECU. I have accepted a new position with the NOAA Alaska
Fisheries Science Center in Seattle, WA and will resign my position at ECU effective on 4 March, 2016.
As a result, I will no longer be able to helm the PCS and CZR projects, so I offer these thoughts:
1) It goes without saying, but I want you to know that I am under contract for 2015, so I will prepare the
necessary reports for the calendar year of 2015 and honor any other wishes until the delivery of the CZR report in June.
So, there will be no changes in the project management for the past year.
2) I am open to discuss your wishes regarding the future of the partnership with ECU. I have a plan of
succession that should result in an easy transition with no interruption in service or quality of the analyses. I propose
that Dr. Enrique Reyes step into the PI role (if you remember, he agreed to join the science panel last year). He currently
directs the Environmental Research Laboratory where the samples are processed and is familiar with the project. He also
has the necessary statistical skills to continue the analysis changes that I have instituted.
Laura McKenna, the field technician, will continue in her role of running the day to day operations and Sid Mitra will
continue his analyses.
Finally, I will develop a timeline and protocol for the yearly activities for both projects to ensure an smooth transition,
should you wish to go this route. Since you have transitioned to other PIs in the past, you will know that ECU is capable
of making these changes and provided the same level of service.
3) Obviously you will want to discuss this in depth and I am available to meet with you at your
convenience. Just let me know. I would be happy to arrange a meeting with Dr. Reyes or to discuss other options that
you might prefer.
Anyway, sorry this is coming via email, but it was the quickest way to reach everyone. While it was a
difficult decisions to leave ECU, I feel this is an excellent opportunity for myself and my family. I have enjoyed our
working relationship and look forward to remaining colleagues into the future.
