Senior Hydrogeologist Eagle Transport was receiving petroleum product at the Marathon facility when the oil pan drain plug vibrated loose from the engine oil pan. Crankcase oil was released to the paved surface at the Marathon property and for a short distance along Oak Street. Facility workers secured and contained the scene until Eastern Environmental Management (Eastern) arrived and performed the remaining cleanup. It was estimated that up to 6 gallons of motor oil was released. Eastern used adsorbents and speedi-dry to capture and remediate the spill. Eight drums of petroleum debris and adsorbents were generated and properly disposed. The disposal paperwork is attached. The spill cleanup activities were completed in accordance with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resource spill cleanup guidance. Based on cleanup activities described above the motor oil release was mitigated. We respectfully request closure of the above referenced spill. We have attached the supporting documentation. Please contact me if you have any questions or require additional information.
