The checked boxes below show what conditions were noted at your facility (also refer to the attached inspection report): Treatment tablets are wrong kind: You are responsible for always having chlorine tablets in place. They must be the kind for wastewater treatment(active ingredient 70% calcium hypochlorite) and not for swimming pools. Pumping the septic tank: Your septic tank requires immediate pump out and should be pumped out every 3 to 5 years going forward. A pumping company can check the status periodically and determine when pumping is required. ® Failure to analyze the effluent: The effluent that is discharged from your system must be analyzed once each year. See Part I(A) of your permit about his requirement. A list of NC certified laboratories that provide this service can be found at DEQ's Laboratory Certification Branch webpage. Please locate your outfall pipe, make arrangements for sampling to be carried out within the next 3 months,.and submit results to this office within 3 weeks after the sampling has been done. If you have questions or comments about this inspection or the requirements to take corrective action, please contact Cory Larsen, PE at 919-480-9998 or me at 919-791-4200. The following observations were made during the inspection: 1. The septic tank must be pumped immediately to prevent a discharge of untreated waste from the tank riser lid. It was last performed in 2011. 2. No visible signs of malfunction (breakout, seepage, etc)were observed in the area of the subsurface sand filter. 3. The chlorinator was stocked with pool type disinfection tablets and should be switched out for calcium hypochlorite wastewater disinfection tablets. 4. Effluent was observed in the chlorine contact chamber but it was well below the invert elevation of the outlet pipe, thus no active discharge. 5. Effluent monitoring has not been performed recently but based on previous inspection records the system does not regularly discharge effluent.
