On September 9, 2024, I evaluated the soybeans growth stage at your hog farm on Blackjack Simpson
Road in Greenville, facility # 74-22, that was planted on July Yd. The growth stage of the soybeans in
your spray fields will specify whether the waste application window can be extended. My inspection was
requested due to mixture of the record heat, the 2024 summer drought and Hurricane Debbie.
My assessment after the visit is that the growth stage of the soybeans in the farm's spray field is in the
beginning seed stage, or R-4 stage. The soybeans will continue to benefit from the irrigation and grow
until the R-6 stage with the additional nutrients in pod growth. I estimated that the soybeans will reach R-
6 growth stage in 30 days from September 9. Therefore, I recommend that the waste application
window be extended until October 9, 2024.
** This recommendation is for this crop and weather situation only, and applications of effluent
should not exceed the amount of PAN allowed by the facility's waste utilization plan. **
** Please prepare a amendment to the facility's waste utilization plan using this recommendation**
