Mr. Eplin,
As directed by Section D-5 of Stormwater Permit NCS000571, a notification is required to the Mooresville Regional
Office of sample results over benchmark. Results over benchmark were received on 8/20/2024 for a sampling
event of stormwater outfalls SWO05 and Landfill Drainage 36 that occurred on 8/08/2024.
Parameter Benchmark SWO05 Landfill
Drainage 36
Hg 12 ng/L 16 ng/L
Cu 10 ug/L 10.4 ug/L
TSS 100 mg/L 150 mg/L 240 mg/L
TSS at SWO05 is now under a Tier One status. The exceedance was documented in the SWPPP, and a stormwater
management inspection was conducted. Possible causes of exceedance of the benchmark for TSS was the
process of hauling river sediment/leaf debris thru the drainage area due to a recent intake maintenance activity.
Hg, Cu,and TSS at Landfill Drainage 36 is now under a Tier One status. The exceedance was documented in the
SWPPP,and a stormwater management inspection was conducted. Possible causes of the benchmark
exceedances were a heavy rain event carrying fine soil from the Phase 1 and 2 top deck and side slopes of the
landfill.
There were also some accompanying Tier Three benchmark exceedances. The written notification for those as well
as the Tier One was mailed on 8/30/2024.Attached is a copy of that correspondence.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Randy

TSS at SWO05 is now under a Tier One status. The exceedance was documented in the SWPPP, and a
stormwater management inspection was conducted. Possible causes of exceedance of the benchmark
for TSS was the process of hauling river sediment/leaf debris thru the drainage area due to a recent
intake maintenance activity.
Hg, Cu,and TSS at Landfill Drainage 36 is now under a Tier One status. The exceedance was
documented in the SWPPP,and a stormwater management inspection was conducted. Possible causes
of the benchmark exceedances were a heavy rain event carrying fine soil from the Phase 1 and 2 top
deck and side slopes of the landfill.
Zinc at SWO04 is currently under a Tier Three status. During the stormwater management inspection, it
was noted that the drainage area contains a switchyard with a galvanized tank and structural steel that
could be contributing to the exceedances. Previous discussions had taken place to grant Tier Relief on
SWO04, and we are hoping to take the additional requested samples soon.
