RE: CITY OF HENDERSONVILLE NORTH FORK RESERVOIR SEDIMENT RELEASE
DOWNSTREAM MONITORING REPORT
The attached monitoring information is provided to satisfy permit conditions regarding documentation
of downstream impacts associated with sediment release through the bottom valve opening of the
North Fork Reservoir dam. The valve was installed and opened for bottom release in August 2023
following completion of dredging operations. The intent of the bottom release is to discharge cool water
with natural sediment concentrations while maintaining sufficient water volume in the reservoir for the
City's water supply.
The Jennings team visually monitored the six permanent downstream cross -sections quarterly since the
October 2023 monitoring report. No fine sediment accumulation was observed at any of the cross -
sections during the monitoring period. An annual cross-section survey was completed on September 20,
2024. The monitoring data and visual observations of the 6 cross -sections indicated no substantial
accumulation of fine sediment on the stream channel bed downstream of the reservoir.
Future monitoring through 2026 will consist of quarterly visual observations and annual cross-section
surveys per the approved monitoring plan.
