Fecal Coliform Benchmark Exceedance Corrective Action
Dear Sir or Madame:
Craven County Wood Energy L.P. (CCWE)with NPDES permit NCS000615 reported a fecal coliform
benchmark exceedance to the DEQ on September 9, 2024. This notification outlines the Tier I corrective
action to reduce the fecal coliform parameter to within permitted benchmark values_
A potential source of fecal coliform in stormwater was identified in the area around the poultry litter
barns. The site is implementing a plan to install gutters on the poultry barns to better control stormwater.
In addition to gutter installation,the site identified a catch basin that is southwest of the poultry barns
that may be collecting stormwater from around the poultry barns. The culvert for that catch basin will be
blanked of. This will direct the water to the existing pond for water reuse on site and reduce the amount
of water from being discharged at Outfall SW003.
The site also has recently had an abundance of Canada geese frequenting the site. This is believed to be
a natural source of fecal coliform contamination at site. By implementing the corrective actions above,
the site seeks determination if fecal coliform is entering stormwater from plant activities or if the source
is from native fowl.
