Reid Wilson This memorandum's purpose is to address and identify actions needed to correct violations related to the Mount Mitchell State Park Wastewater Treatment Facility located at the maintenance area on May 28"', 2024 and documented on the attached Notice of Violation issued on June 13"', 2024. 1. Operation & Maintenance Plan - The park will prepare an Operation and Maintenance Plan using the information and data listed on plans from the systems construction. 2. Minor Modification of the system - The park has engaged a consultant to design a solution to the backwash bypass issue. It is our understanding that the project has been designed and submittal to NCDEQ is forthcoming. Receipt of the NOV has resulted in increased urgency to have the consultant submit the plans as soon as possible. We will provide updates as we progress through the design & construction process. 3. Sand Filter Cover - The Park has engaged a consultant engineer to design a fixed roof structure to protect the sand filter from weather while allowing for air circulation to allow the aerobic treatment process to resume. This process will follow the State Construction Office review and approval process. Brian L. Reid Wilson 4. Totalizer — The totalizer was reset after coming out of winterization and is now functioning 5. Maintenance Log — After contacting the current ORC they have been unable to produce their maintenance or calibration logs. Mount Mitchell State Park staff are creating new logs that will be in place by August lst, 2024. Going forward, the maintenance log will be housed in the septic pumphouse to include maintenance and calibration logs. Both park staff and future ORCs will be required to fill out this log at the conclusion of any maintenance & inspection activities. If you have any additional questions, please contact me directly.
