Dear Ms. Manuel:
Aqua North Carolina, Inc. (Aqua) offers the following response to the above -referenced Notice of
Violation, which was issued for Pipe Failure (Break), indicated on the self -reported sanitary sewer
overflow (SSO) 5 Day report.
Aqua's Response:
This SSO was due to ground settlement. This area has had similar ground settling issues
that negatively affected the collection system piping. The pressure from the ground settlement
seemed to have caused a horizontal crack in the sewer collection line. Aqua mobilized a contractor
to repair the sewer line and instructed them to go ahead and replace the entire section of pipe. A
vacuum truck was utilized to stop the flow quickly and clean up any residual wastewater in the
area. The area of impact was also treated with lime for disinfection.
