Dear Mr. Tuvia,
On behalf of the Town of Fuquay-Varina, Hazen and Sawyer is submitting this letter of request for
authorization to construct(ATC) an expansion of the existing Terrible Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
(WWTP),NPDES Permit number NC0066516,to a capacity of 6.0 million gallons per day(mgd). The
Terrible Creek WWTP is currently configured for a total capacity of 3.0 mgd. The Terrible Creek WWTP
NPDES Permit includes effluent limits based on plant capacities ranging from the current 3.0 mgd to 6.0
mgd. This project includes the addition of new treatment facilities that will increase the wastewater
treatment capacity of the Terrible Creek WWTP to 6.0 mgd. Specifically,this project includes the
following:
• Improvements to the exiting Influent Pump Station
• Construction of a new biological nutrient removal (BNR)tanks, installation of two new
blowers,and improvements to the existing BNR tanks
• Construction of a new secondary clarifier and installation of two return activated sludge(RAS)
pumps
• Installation of two new tertiary filters
• Modifications to the existing Ultraviolet(UV) Disinfection Facility
• Installation of two new chemical metering pumps
• Construction of a new Administration and Maintenance Building
This project is expected to be completed and operational in the spring of 2027. In accordance with the
ATC application requirements the following items are enclosed with this letter:
