Leak occurred between two air release valves. 58-feet of ductile iron pipe was replaced with C900 PVC. Visited spill site and pipeline repair area with Mr. James Blalock with the Town of Clayton. Repair was complete and force main was in operation. Hydrated lime was noted on ground surface to treat soil. Clayton staff indicated that hydro-seed and additional hydrated lime was to be installed at the site. Inspected upstream air release valve with no issues noted. Visited creek and area of spill. No solids or evidence of sewage immediately upstream or downstream of spill location. Natural iron bacteria was noted in the flowing stream. No inhibition to fish or aquatic life noted in the stream. Walked approximately 500 feet downstream and 300 feet upstream of spill site. Sewer spill appears to have reached surface waters. Clayton staff indicated that spill volume was estimated based on surface area and depth of spill at arrival to site. Upstream pump station was managed and turned off when new PVC pipe was installed. Clayton staff collected and disposed of sewer spill in sewer system that they could vacuum up. Visited upstream Little River pump station.
