Stormwater Permit: NCG030664
This is to notify you that Southwire had two benchmark exceedances in our last quarterly stormwater
sampling. We had an exceedance in copper and zinc. (Exceedance amounts listed below). This
exceedances requires Southwire to report at a Tier One response for a benchmark exceedance. Please see
the below Tier One Response actions that we have taken and our plan for corrective actions.
• Quarterly Stormwater Discharge Monitoring: Jul —Sept 2024— Tier 1 Response
o Date Sampled: 07/29/2024
o SWPP Documented: 8/12/2024 (Results received)
o DENR Notified: 8/15/2024
o DMR Reported: 8/13/2024
o Exceedance Amounts:
■ ROS Outfall #2: Copper (Benchmark 0.010 mg/I) Amount: 0.022mg/L
■ ROS Outfall #2: Zinc (Benchmark 0.126 mg/I) Amount: 0.18mg/L
o Potential Cause:
■ Hydraulic oil leaks from orange and white Kalmars— leaking on shipping yards in small
quantities while operating
■ Continuous reel repairs and rework that are preformed outside
■ Open top scrap metal container
■ Scrap reels of exposed electrical core
■ Increased truck traffic— increase of tire dust, tire wear from forklifts, increased
contractors
■ Galvanized steel racking components outside
o Follow up Storm Water Inspection (per Tier One Instruction): 8/14/2024
o SWPP Updated: 8/15/2024
o Potential Solution:
■ Kalmar (white and orange) repairs — no longer leaking hydraulic fluid
■ Install berms to all curbs around reel repair area— in process
■ Need closed top scrap metal container— in process
■ Scrap reels of exposed electrical core— being removed over the next several months
1
■ Truck traffic will lessen due to product orders decreasing
■ Galvanized Steel racking components will be relocated so not stored outside
o Follow up Stormwater Sampling: TBD
We will continue to work to create viable corrective solutions for this issue and will notify you of any
changes. Also attached is the analytical reporting from our sampling. Please reach out to me at your earliest
convenience should you have any questions.
Thank you.

DEFINITIONS
DF-Dilution Factor,if reported, represents the factor applied to the reported data due to dilution of the sample aliquot.
ND-Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit.
TNTC-Too Numerous To Count
J-Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit.
MDL-Adjusted Method Detection Limit.
PQL-Practical Quantitation Limit.
RL-Reporting Limit-The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and
bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix.
S-Surrogate
1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270.The result for each analyte is
a combined concentration.
Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate%recovery and RPD values.
LCS(D)-Laboratory Control Sample(Duplicate)
MS(D)-Matrix Spike(Duplicate)
DUP-Sample Duplicate
RPD-Relative Percent Difference
NC-Not Calculable.
SG-Silica Gel-Clean-Up
U-Indicates the compound was analyzed for,but not detected.
Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether.
A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA
Method 8260.
N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for
each analyte is a combined concentration.
Reported results are not rounded until the final step prior to reporting. Therefore, calculated parameters that are typically reported as
"Total"may vary slightly from the sum of the reported component parameters.
Pace Analytical is TNI accredited.Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes.
TN -The NELAC Institute.
ANALYTE QUALIFIERS
H3 Sample was received or analysis requested beyond the recognized method holding time.
M1 Matrix spike recovery exceeded QC limits. Batch accepted based on laboratory control sample(LCS)recovery.
