Dear Neeraj Surana and Gita Mody,
On August 5, 2024, Staff of the Water Quality Regional Operations Section Raleigh Regional Office
conducted a compliance evaluation inspection of the wastewater treatment system located at 901 Old
Fayetteville Rd. in Chapel Hill. The purpose of this inspection was to ensure compliance with the subject
permit.
This compliance evaluation inspection consisted of the following:
•Review of the permit;
•Review of the owner/facility information;
•On-site inspection of treatment and storage components
The current permit was issued August 28, 2018 and expired on July 31, 2023.
Our records indicate the treatment system is permitted to consist of a 1,200 gallon baffled septic tank, a
distribution box, dual parallel 210 square-foot (ft2) subsurface sand filters, a tablet chlorinator, two 1,200
gallon storage/pump tanks with a 9.9 gallon per minute (GPM), and high-water alarm, a 0.30 acre spray
irrigation area with three non-overlapping, full-circle, 74-foot-diameter sprinkler heads, and all associated
piping, valves, controls, and appurtenances.
Non-Discharge Permit WQ0015586 authorizes the operation of up to 480 gallons per day (GPD). The
authorized irrigation is in accordance with the effluent limits and monitoring requirements established
within the Non-Discharge Permit. The items below show what conditions were noted at your facility:
• At the time of the inspection, the system had not been constructed.
Non-Discharge permit WQ0015586 requires the permittee to “pay the annual administering and
compliance monitoring fee within thirty days after being billed by the Division.” Division records
indicate the required annual fees ($60 per year) for the period ending July 31, 2025 and due August 15,
2024 has been paid. There are no overdue fees for the subject Non-discharge permit.
