Trade St. Tryon, N.0 28782 June 24, 2024 Daniel Boss, Assistant Regional Supervisor Water Quality Regional Operations Section Asheville Regional Office Division of Water Resources, NCDEQ SUBJECT: NOTICE OF VIOLATIONS: NOV-2024-LV-0033 NOV--2024-LV-0188 NOV-2024-LV-0189 NOV-2024-LV-0380 Dear Mr. Boss: In October 2023 Brad McKinney took over as ORC for the Tryon Wastewater Treatment Plant and resigned June 2024. At the present time I'm the ORC until the Town hires someone. Please find below the causes and corrections for Notice of Violations: Fecal Coliform/Weekly Geometric Mean Exceeded: • Cause : Not wasting enough sludge, causing sludge blanket to rise in clarifiers. The chlorinator was showing the chlorine was feeding but the operating lever was not pushed down to the correct position. • Correction: Wasting sludge on our normal schedule Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Set chlorinator to correct position. Total Ammonia Nitrogen/Weekly Average exceeded; • Cause: Not enough time on aerators and mixer and not wasting enough sludge. • Correction: Added extra time to the aerators and mixer in the activated sludge basin to increase the dissolved oxygen and wasting more sludge on our normal schedule, have taken remedial actions to correct the above problems and prevent further occurrences in the future.
