Subject: Semi-Annual Progress Report
Waynesville WWTP
Permit: NC0025321
Haywood County
In accordance with our current SOC signed on December 31, 2020, specifically in section 2b (9),
requires the Town of Waynesville to provide semi-annual reports on the mitigation efforts to
address I&I reduction in the sanitary sewer system. The Town of Waynesville has completed
numerous jobs of which some are included in the CIP for the sanitary sewer. Some of the
replacements of sanitary sewers will be in addition to the CIP that was previously submitted.
Below is a total of different size lines that have been addressed and replaced since January 2024.
We are also working with Haywood Waterways to establish fecal counts to help assist those
problem areas. The Town of Waynesville is also working with McGill and Associates on flow
variations from the gravity main line and force main line that both travel to the WWTP. These
flow measures will help identify areas of concern for I&I mitigation.
Sewer Line Replacement:
• 8” – 850lf
• 6” – 1635lf
• 4” – 100lf
Total: 2,585lf
Note: All the linear footage replaced was VCP, Orangeburg, Cast Iron. These were replaced with
PVC pipe.
Smoke Testing:
The Sewer Maintenance Department completed 39,000lf of smoke testing of the sewer
infrastructure to determine areas of I&I. These areas will be investigated further based on the
specific findings.
Total: 39,000lf
CCTV: The Sewer Maintenance Department completed 32,000lf of CCTV of the sewer
infrastructure. Along with the smoke testing, CCTV will better identify some of the problem
areas of I&I.
Total: 32,000lf
Sincerely,
Jeff Stines
