From Winston take I-40 East/I-85 to Burlington. Take
Highway 87 South to SR 2172 , turn left. Turn left
again on SR 2173 , Petty Road. The house number is
located on a sign near the wellhouse.

The land gently slopes toward the Haw River. The
treatment system is not in the flood plain.

The nearest dwelling is greater than 500 ' from the
discharge point.

The Haw River is used for recreation and has been
used as a drinking water source in Bynum and
eventually enters the Jordan Reservoir.
PART II - DESCRIPTION OF DISCHARGE AND TREATMENT WORKS

existing) :
The existing treatment system consists of 1000-gallon
baffled septic tank, a 400 square foot subsurface
sandfilter, and approximately 420 feet of discharge
pipe. A trickle from the discharge pipe was observed
on this date.
5 . Sludge handling and disposal scheme:
Sludge should be pumped by a licensed hauler as needed.
Mr. Cagle stated that he has the septic tank pumped
about every 2 years to insure proper function.

(since chlorination is being requested)
PART IV - EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The Winston-Salem Regional Office recommends that
chlorination be required. A chlorination chamber will be
needed. This would allow for disinfection and also provide
a location where samples could be collected if so desired.
With this noted, the Winston-Salem Regional Office
recommends that the permit be reissued in accordance with
current regulations.
