Subject: Response to (NOV-2024-LV-0319) (February 2024) for Bennett Elementary School wastewater
system facility. Permit # NC0039471
Dear Ms. Manuel:
The referenced NOV is for Ammonia Nitrogen (NH3) monthly average exceedance. This was due to
adding limestone on top of the filter bed to help maintain a higher pH level. The day after I put out the
limestone, a heavy rain came through and caused the system to be dosed too quickly. I believe this
inhibited the system from fully eliminating all the ammonia. All other permit parameters were within the
permit limits. The Ammonia Nitrogen levels remained below the permit daily limit and the system is back
in compliance for the month of March.
