July 1, 2024 Mr. Jerry Eplin Land Quality Division Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land Resources North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Mooresville Regional Office 610 E. Center Ave. Suite 301 Mooresville, North Carolina 28115 RE: Discharge Monitoring Report—2nd Quarter 2024 Darnel, Inc. — Monroe Facility 1809 Airport Road Monroe, Union County, North Carolina General NPDES Permit# NCG050000 Certificate of Coverage # NCG050447 GRI Project # 5228 Dear Mr. Eplin: On behalf of Darnel, Inc. (Darnel), please find attached the results of stormwater outfall sampling that was conducted on May 14, 2024, for the Darnel, Inc. facility in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina. Water samples were collected from the outfalls SDO-1, SDO-2, SDO-3 and SDO-4 by GRI personnel on May 14, 2024, in accordance with the sampling requirements of the permit and the updated SWPPP. In addition, a water sample, designated as SDO-4 Ditch, was also collected downgradient of outfall SDO-4 in the ditch that runs parallel to the length of the building. Please note that this ditch also receives runoff from Airport Road and the drainage ditch that runs parallel to the road. Water samples were measured on-site for pH and then submitted for laboratory analysis of total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and non-polar oil and grease. The May 2024 sampling results indicated that there were exceedances of TSS in SDO-3, SDO-4 and SDO- 4 Ditch. However, GRI believes that these TSS concentrations will likely be reduced to levels below the benchmark values once the engineering controls detailed in the updated SWPPP are fully deployed at the site. A Site Map displaying the locations of the SDOs is presented as Figure 1. The Stormwater Discharge Outfall Monitoring Report is included in Appendix A, the Stormwater Discharge Outfall Qualitative Monitoring Report is included in Appendix B, and a complete laboratory analytical report is included as Appendix C. 3502 Hayes Road • Monroe, North Carolina 28110 113 West Firetower Road, Suite G • Winterville, North Carolina 28590 Phone (704) 845-4010 • (888) 870-4133 • Fax (704) 845-4012 Discharge Monitoring Report—2nd Quarter 2024 Darnel, Inc.—Monroe Facility Monroe, Union County, North Carolina Certificate of Coverage# NCG050447 Page 2 of 2 The next quarterly sampling event is scheduled to be conducted between July through September 2024 during a representative rainfall event.
