consist of 900 gallon septic tank, 391 sq. ft.
subsurface sandfilter, chlorinator, outfall to lake.

Septic Tank to be pumped as needed and hauled to
P.O.T.W. Mr. Conkle has it pumped "at least every
year" .

the septic tank.
PART IV - EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

During the inspection, a flood condition existed and
the outfall effect could not be determined. The chlorinator
appeared to have little if any tablets but the flood
conditions impeded inspection efforts. WSRO recommends
renewal of the permit, but believes this system should be
tied into a community or public sewer system immediately if
and when it becomes available. (Non-powered boating and
canoeing does occur in the lake) .

Dear Mr. Conkle:
During my recent inspection of your wastewater treatment
sandfilter (NC0046698) for your residence, it appeared that no
chlorine was in your contact chamber as required by your
discharge permit. This may have been due to flood water
conditions at the lake which may have dissolved the tablets .
As your discharge is into a lake (instead of a stream) ,
canoeing does occur on the lake, and these waters eventually
provide public drinking water for Eden; it is very important that
the disinfection process be constant. Due to these facts, please
review your maintenance schedule for adding chlorine tablets to
the disinfection chamber and make any adjustments necessary to
insure an uninterrupted treatment of your discharge. You may
also be able to find a longer lasting chlorine tablet that would
be more efficient to your operation. Please be advised that
failure to properly disinfect your discharge is a violation of
your permit and could result in revocation of the permit and/or
penalties .
