The draft revisions proposes the same 75ft pier with a 25x25 platform for a total of 100ft offshore. Deck board spacing is also proposed. Please let me know asap with any discussion. As discussed I have spoken with the applicant in regards to activities planned for the pier. The first response I was given was, water sport activities such as: kayaking, paddle boarding and kite surfing would be expected to be performed from the pier. The second and most popular activity performed from the pier would be recreational fishing. The Currituck sound is a fishermans paradise and having the platform in water depths in which fish navigate more frequently will not only facilitate, but encourage customers to fish on the property. Near the bulkhead water depths can range from 0'-0.5' and frequently do with northerly winds. The water depth increases slightly to 1-2' throughout the length of the pier, that is until we reach where the proposed platform begins, which typically ranges from 2.5-3.5'. Not only will the depth encourage more people to fish, but the vegetation present at those depths will also, since the fish often utilize it. The applicant's vision is to have the platform large enough to accommodate a large gathering of people for fishing, but also photography of the Currituck sound. The pier will allow customers to view the beautiful sunsets we experience on the currituck sound, the sun sets on "this" side of the sound and is an optimal place to view it. Wildlife is part of the heritage of Currituck county and viewing wildlife is a popular and fulfilling experience. The Currituck Trading Post especially in the summer is extremely high volume, having a platform large enough to accommodate this type of volume with the activities mentioned is of the utmost importance to the owner. Since SAV is present we would like to propose decreasing the platform size of 31.5' x 31.5' to 25'x25'. This will in turn decrease the overall size from 992 sq ft. to 625 sq ft, which is a total decrease of 367 sq ft. In addition would raise the pier from 4' to 4.5' to allow more sunlight, also increase deck spacing from the standard 1/8" to 1/2" to also allow more sunlight to penetrate the vegetation. v/r, Jake Messina On Mon, Jun 17, 2024 at 11:03 AM Bodnar, Gregg <gregg.bodnar@deq.nc.gov> wrote: Gregg Bodnar (he/him/his) Major Permits Coordinator Division of Coastal Management North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (252) 515-5416 (NEW OFFICE NUMBER) Please note my new email address(gregg.bodnarCa)deg.nc.gov).
