Since we received objections to the original drawings from USACE and WRC, can you guys please confirm you all are good with the updated drawings? We need to get something out to the applicant soon. DWR, your statements indicate you are good with a realignment so long as it occurs outside of PNA. The new alignment is does not change within PNA so should be consistent with your comments. Please confirm. Hey Cameron, Thanks for pinging us on this. I am going to have to agree with Maria. Shifting the channel will require "new dredging" which we will circulate to our federal partners. Maintenance dredging in the same footprint is not likely to raise many concerns but going outside the template in sturgeon critical habitat may raise some flags. While I understand the ask, if they have current authorization to dredge in the area that needs to be dredged, the purpose and need of shifting the channel just 60 feet may fall short given the environmental impacts. On our side we wont view this as a modification but likely as a whole other permit request if it's a CAMA major. Let me know if you need anything else from me! Whittaker Creek is PNA and the shift would be new dredging. The channel maintenance originally was not within the shoreline stabilization project on the island so it wasn't related to anything presented during the multiple shoreline stabilization meetings until the 2020 modification request. I believe one of the reasons to add the channel maintenance to the stabilization project was to obtain the fill material. The NCWRC did not object then because the channel had been permitted and had a maintenance history so we were fine with the same dimensions and a moratorium — they were essentially just adding two projects into one and making a dredge permit valid that had expired.
