Inspection Summary:
On June 14, 2024, Division of Water Resources staff Kristen Potwora conducted a scheduled routine compliance inspection
at the Tyson Farms – Hays Hatchery WWTF. Jim Brown (ORC) and Tyler Love were present during the entire inspection. A
review of available records, the treatment and storage lagoon, the screen boxes, flowmeter, and all monitoring wells were
completed. This review reflected compliance with the subject permit.
Other Observations:
•There is a new permittee Perry Hauser and all future correspondence should be directed to perry.hauser@tyson.com.
•Residuals removal has not been necessary since the last inspection on 6/14/2022. Solid accumulation is very slow
and most of the waste that goes into the lagoon is liquid.
•A sludge survey is completed yearly, and the screen boxes are cleaned daily.
•Monitoring Well 2 has NH3 limit violations, but is within the review boundary.
•The flowmeter was calibrated on 3/10/23 and 4/15/24.
•Defoaming agent is being used only when deemed necessary. No foam was present during the inspection. The pump
that was broken last inspection has been fixed.
•Monitoring Wells had new laminated labels and were in good condition. DWR staff requested the permittee to mow and
weed whack around the wells. This was completed on the day of inspection and photos were sent to DWR staff.
•Berm vegetation was mowed and looked good.
•Freeboard at time of the inspection was 7 feet.
•Bar screens were clear of excess debris and in working condition.
