HomeMy WebLinkAbout20160517 Ver 2_More Info Received_20240530Areas F-West and H Yard Improvements — Concrete Encasement Construction Method Concrete encasement will be constructed in 5 sections approximately 200-feet in length utilizing the following sequence. Step 1. Install Turbidity Curtain Adjacent to Wharf Piling and perpendicular returns on either side of the work area. o The turbidity curtain will contain suspended debris/sediment from demolition, cleaning, and excavation. Tarps will be set and secured (to the existing sheetpile and pier piles to allow for debris/sediment to be captured and properly disposed of prior to Step 5. Step 2. Demolish Timber Wheel Guard and Top 1 Foot of Existing Sheet Piling Step 3. Install New Tie Back System per Plan - Sta. 11+28 to Sta.12+03 & Sta. 19+22 to 19+69 Step 4. Clean Existing Sheet Piling (At Low Tide) o Utilize low pressure 5000 psi & scraping to remove scaling and debris. o Remove Containment Tarps with captured debris. Step 5. Install Bottom Form, Blockout Support, Reinforcing Hangers, and Reinforcing Steel, and Block Out (At Low Tide). Blockout Forms will be secured to each adjoining panel and sealed at each vertical joint. Step 6. Install Flat Web Sheet Piling to provide Containment and Structural Component of Formwork. The combination of the Blocklout and Sheet Piling seated of significant depth will provide a near impervious dike on the vertical face and from underneath the cofferdam area and any concrete leakage into the River. o Brace sheet piling against wharf piling/deck. o Depth of Sheets and Bracing to be designed by Geotechnical and Structural Engineers. Sheet Piles are anticipated to be 20 to 30 feet below mudline. Top of Sheet above existing Pier to provide added containment. Step 7. Dewater Cofferdam with Pumps and Filter through Geo-Bags and/or similar means. Step 8. Pour Lower Concrete Encasement Step 9. Form & Pour Upper Concrete Encasement Step 10. Remove Impervious Dike (Flat Web Sheet Piling), Block Out and Block Out Supports. (5 Setups) Step 11. Point & Patch Concrete Face Step 12. Repeat Steps 4 through 11 for Subsequent Sections Step 13.
