HomeMy WebLinkAbout20240369 Ver 1_More Info Received_20240530Narrative Revised 5/29/24 As the acting agent for the Figure Eight Island Yacht Club, Inc. who owns the existing boat ramp located along the north side of the causeway between the bridge and the marina/clubhouse at 15 Bridge Road, on Figure Eight Island, Wilmington in New Hanover County, I am submitting the enclosed CAMA Major Permit Application for improvements and extension of the existing boat ramp, 2 groins / breakwaters, a new pier, a new launch and retrieval floating dock, a new 9-slip floating dock system, and a new access pier leading to a new floating kayak launch. The proposed docking facility is being requested and needed for the increased need of additional slips for homeowners and the slips will be assigned via annual lease. As proposed, the existing boat ramp measuring 12' x 72' would be topped with new concrete slabs and extended an additional I I' waterward to existing water depth of -3' @ normal low water (NLW). The concrete slabs will be poured on the high ground and then slid into place once the concrete has cured. Two groins / breakwaters (wooden or vinyl), 1 @ 45' and 1 @ 69' in length and 1' above NHW are also being proposed, one on each side of the boat ramp to help alleviate the silting -in of the boat ramp, their exact location is shown on Sheet 3. Located on the eastern side of the boat ramp will be a new 6' x 40' access pier connecting via ramp to a new 6' x 48' floating launch/retrieval assist dock. Extending southeastward from this floating dock will be a new 6' x 124' floating dock spline with four 4' x 24' floating finger piers extending waterward with a total of 10 tie -pilings located between the finger piers creating a total of 9 boat slips. No dockage will be allowed on the landward side of the 6' x 124' floating dock, boats will be limited to 24' in length and no heads will be allowed. Located on the westward side of the boat ramp will be a new 6' x 52' access pier which will connect via a 5' x 20' ramp (sized to allow for ease and safety in carrying a kayak) to a new 6' x 18' floating dock with a 5' x 14' floating kayak launch attached on the west side. It should be noted that there are currently 40 existing designated and numbered parking spaces adjacent to the existing gravel access road to the boat ramp. Existing water depths within the proposed slips range from -3' to 4' @ NLW and -5' @ NLW at the waterward end of the structures. The installation of the proposed groins / breakwaters will result in the fillings of approx. 64 sq. ft. of Coastal Wetlands. Existing water depths in the area of the kayak launch range from approx. -2' to -3.5' @ NLW. The proposed structures will not encroach into the adjacent 15' Riparian Corridor Setbacks nor into the existing channel and no dredging will be required.
