Tim,
We are proposing to build it as your outline in the "Drystack Boulder Wall Design" Attachment and intend to follow the
guidelines for Riparian Buffer Restoration. Is there anything specific you need me to do to document this approach?

Larry,
Sorry I have been backed up and just began reviewing your application.
Yes, I will need a detail of your proposed wall. A dry stacked Boulder wall is the preferred method. Your photos are dark
and hard to see can you confirm that there is at least 3 feet of active erosion occurring where the wall will be placed?
I have attached an example detail of a drystack wall design and below are conditions for rip -rap placement.
Please let me know if you want to discuss further or need more guidance.
Your project will be placed on hold until I receive the above information.
Thanks for the communication,
Tim

Hi Tim,
I have reviewed the information sent to me an the Lawrence Deangelo Shoreline Stabilization
Project on Lake Glenville in Jackson County. The applicant proposes to stabilize 200 feet of
shoreline on Lake Glenville with rip rap.
We do not object to the project as tong as it addresses an active and appreciable shoreline
erosion problem. The photos included in the application I received are dark I cannot determine
if they demonstrate an active and appreciable erosion issue
The shoreline provides important habitat for wildlife. Fallen trees and other large woody debris
along the shoreline are especially important, providing cover for various sunfish, largemouth
bass, and other fishes in the lake. In addition, trees and shrubs above the waterline not only
stabilize banks but also serve as habitat for wildlife such as song birds.
We offer the following recommendations to minimize impacts to terrestrial and aquatic wildlife:
1. Where stabilization is implemented, large woody debris should be left in place or moved
temporarily and replaced after stabilization work is complete.
2. We recommend that the landowners retain as many shoreline trees and shrubs as possible,
andurge them to plant additional native herbaceous vegetation, shrubs, and trees to
improve riparian habitat. Recommendations for native species are available in NC
Cooperative Extension's guide on small-scale solutions to eroding stream banks, available
here: littps:Lwww.bae.ncsu.edu/srpipdfs/online-BYSRGLLide2Ol5.pd .
Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on this project. Please contact me if you
have any questions about these comments or need further assistance.
