NCO024112 — Thomasville Hamby Creek WWTP
May 3, 2024
The permit became effective on 02/24/2022 and will expire on 04/30/2026.
The WWTP appeared to be extremely well maintained and operated.
The WWTP suffered an upset condition this past December and January due to severe natural
conditions.
The facility is a Grade 4 classification and is permitted for 6 MGD with 24-hour coverage year-round.
This is a 5-stage Bardenpho oxidation system designed for advanced nutrient removal.
Preliminary treatment consists of influent filter screening equipment and solids classifier grit removal
system.
The influent wastewater is mixed with the return activated sludge before entering the first stage of the
process, an anaerobic zone to facilitate phosphorus removal. From the anaerobic zone it enters the
second stage of the process, which is an anoxic zone to facilitate den itrification. The following three
stages of the process are an aerobic zone, a second anoxic zone, and a final aerobic reaeration
zone.
The final stage of the secondary treatment process is three secondary clarifiers.
The effluent from the secondary clarifiers is treated with three tertiary disk filter units.
The effluent from the tertiary filters is treated with ultraviolet disinfection and reaeration before being
discharged into Hamby Creek, class C waters in the Yadkin -Pee Dee River Basin.
All records are very detailed and kept in a very orderly manner.
The effluent was very clear at the time of the inspection.
