On February 14, 2024, Carolina Water Service, Inc. of NC took a weekly routine enterococci compliance sample at the Fairfield Harbour Wastewater Treatment Facility. Laboratory analysis determined that the enterococci sample collected exceeded the daily maximum limit with a result of 373. Upon investigation it was determined that the operator who took the enterococci sample used a sample bottle that had been contaminated with rainwater that had leaked into the sample cooler. Proper sampling techniques were discussed with the operator to prevent contamination of compliance sample bottles to prevent further compliance related issues.
