Sedimentation & Erosion Control "

General Narrative
Carriage Hills Subdivision is approximately 7 . 2 acres
which has 50 foot frontage from Bannerman Mill P"oad ( SR
1222) near Catherine .Lake in Onslova County . The land slopes lt,
away from SR 1222 at a rate of from I to g A . The final
grading plan is se.t at a road centerline slope is generally
a. ma.ximum of 2 X. The owners plan to develop the l -and into
single family lots utilizing the water system from the i
Onslow County Water Department , There is a 4 inch diameter
main along the east RAJ of SR 1222 , and the existing SP 1222
will be bored to extend service to this pro, iect . There is
presently existing on the northside of the Chris-Dale tract , i
an access road which leads westwardly , being used by various
construction trucks which appear to be hauling sand from a
borrow pit located perhaps 2000 feet west of this site .
Adjacent Property
The land along the entire north side of this tract is
presently owned by International Paper Company . The access o
1.F
road mentioned .abmie is actually on Chris-Dale , Inc .
property where itfintersects with SR 1222 . The road
meanders somewhat and is on International Paper Company land k: `I
near the northwest corner of the Chris-Dale , Inc . property .
Recently some widening was done on the soil road by unknown
persons and apparently permi =.s.ion was granted by
International Paper Company for this work . Chris-Dale , Inc .
pl-afrs on building the entrance r'oa.d to minimum DOT state
specifications ., The work is not intended to limit the
access to property beyond Chris-Dale , Inc . tract , but the
paved surface will extend only as far as is required to make
a. , turn to the south onto Carriage Hills. Court .
Planned Sediment Control .
Construction wi11 be minimal for 1 .6 lots. , The amount
of road construction iniiII be slightly above one acre ( 1 . 13)
There are no large scale efforts planned for moving earth .
i
r '
. . 1
r .
The material within the roadway is all that w i I I be moved.
There is minimal clearing of the trees . The land will be
graded for minimum Department of Transportation Standards,
and back:sloped from roadside ditches_. accordingly . Nei.d pipes
are planned for three place=_ as shown on the enclsed plans ,
and an application to the DOT for plan approval has been
made .
The main erosion and sediment control measures are rock
dams at the entrances of the pipes. ulithin the project
proposed.
The construction sequence is. :
1 . Preliminary clearing L grubbing, ( Feb 1989)
debris removal or burning
2 . Initial gradino completed ( Feb 1989)
- 3 . Pipe installation , swaIe ditches (Mar 1989)
4 . Install rock da.ms_. , silt fence
drainage structure complete (Mar 1989)
5. Fine grade project , install rock road base
(March 1989) t
5 . Pavement installed on rock base (March 1989)
7 . Final cleanup , Ia.nds.ca.pino a:iith seed ,
fertilizer , topsoil if needed (April 1989)
Specific Erosion Control Measures -
A. All disturbed areas will be seeded
with hulled bermuda.grass applied at a.
rate of 10 - 20 1bs.:'acre , broadcast
and fertilized with 1000-2000 lbs/
acre of 10-10-10 v, ithin 30 days
after fine grading and stabliza.tion
of disturbed areas . Lime shall be .added
at a rate of 2000 4 per acre disturbed .
R

j1 {( B. Broadcast weeping Loveyrass at a rate
of 5 — 10 lb=_:%acre , and Sericea Lespedeza
a rate of 40 lbs/a.cre .
11.M1.
C. Any areas of seed adhich fail to germinate
1 .•. after inital efforts , shall be reseeded.
I :,q Seedbed Preparation :
! 1 . Scratch shoulders or back slopes of roadway
and swales so that the surface is scarified
and seed car, find loose soil for rootbed.
2. Remove any debris including stones , stumps
rootmat , or an • obstructions aohlch would
I leave a rough surface .
<• 3 . Apply lime and fertilizer as needed to soil
I • ..F
4. Seed on a freshly prepared seedbed and cover
seed lightly with equipment such as a
:`;• cultipacker after seeding .
5 . Inspect all seeded areas and make any repairs
or reseed if necessary after suitable time
for germination within the planting season .
•_I`L ' 6. Mulch with wheat =_.tray, or hay immediately after
soil preparation and seeding operations. Mulch
area manually , covering land slightly in order
to provide sunlight and cover simultaneously .
