volume. This elevation -is 1.8 ft below the top of dam.. The
emergency spillway elevation is planned 1.-0 foot below the
top of dam.
E. Pump Pit -at New 'Freestall Barn
The pump pit is designed to store 3 days of manure and
flush water from parlor.
Manure Volume = 250 cows * 1.4 gal/day/cow * 3 days
7.48 gal/cu ft-
= 1,404 cu ft
Flush Water = 2500 Qal/dav x 3 days
7.48 gal/cu ft
= 1,003 cu ft
Total = 1,404 + 1,003 = 2,407 cu ft
Size Basin - 81xl9'xl9' = 2,888 cu ft
Additional Capacity is available in gravity channel -& volume
available above the pump pit elevation.
Additional Volume— 861x4.51x3' + 4'x28'x28 = 4,297 cu ft
Total Capacity = 4,297 cu ft + 2,888 cu ft = 7,185 cu ft
For the 17,.000 sq ft lot, this is equivalent to 5 inches of
runoff capacity.

D. Pump Out Elevation and ESW Elevation
This waste storage pond should be pumped to second pond

At maximum capacity, the storage period will be
approximately 3 months.
Normal Pump.Out Volume

= 375 ac-in per year
= 10,180,471 gallons per year
Maximum pump out level
0.5' + 1.0' = 1.5'
D. Pump Out Elevation and ESW Elevation
The waste storage pond for runoff should be hauled or
irrigated before the water level reaches the 25 yr-- 24 hr
storage volume. This elevation is 1.5 ft below the top of
dam. The emergency.spillway elevation is planned 1.0 foot
below the top of dam.
VII.-Dry.-Stack at New -Dry Cow Freestall Barn -
This component of the waste management system was not
designed by NRCS. What follows are calculations that show
the component was sized appropriately.
A. Design Volumes
A maximum of 250 dry cows will be on the lot 100% of
the time.
Volume = (250 head *-74 lb/head/day) / 62 lb/cubic ft
= 298.4 cubic ft per day or 2,232 gallons per day
The dry stack is under roof and no runoff will be
allowed to enter the system. Therefore, runoff will not be
taken into account in the design of this system.
B. Calculated Size of the Waste Storage Facility
The dry stack pit was built 125' long, 20' wide, and
12' deep with approximately 4:1 entrance ramps on each side
of the pit (see illustration below). The illustration below
shows the pit looking down at an angle from above. The green
surfaces will contact manure.
Assuming the waste is not stacked above the floor
elevation of the barn, this pit provides a volume of 18,480
cubic feet or 138,230 gallons. Therefore, the pit is sized
for a storage period of about 62 days.
VIII. Clean Water Exclusion
A. ' Diversions
Clean water diversions will be maintained around waste
storage ponds. The District Conservationist will design all
diversions. Diversions shall be designed to carry the 25
year - 24 hour runoff plus capacity to store some sediment.
B. Guttering
Clean water shall be excluded to the fullest extent
possible by guttering. Any new roof runoff into feedlot
area will be guttered.
