This site is part of William B. Umstead State Park. The land use here is for recreation and conservation. The
natural communities present in this area include dry-mesic oak: hickory forest, bottomland-hardwood forest and
riverine communities:

The purpose of the project is to reroute.an existing hiking trail to a more sustainable reroute and abandon the.
existing section because of erosion issues....

The trail reroute will be completed by park staff and volunteers using hand tools. The work will be completed
with the -goal of creating a sustainable hiking trail. The one stream crossing will repurpose an existing bridge
from a different location and will be.situated bank to bank. This will alleviate the need for any in -stream work or
permits. Vegetation clearing will be limited to the trail tread necessary for completing this project.

Trail crossed through buffer quickly'to minimize the amount of time spent in the buffer. The rest of the reroute is
outside of the Neuse Buffer.

techniques. This project is designed to eliminate a section of trail that is eroding. Vegetative clearing will be
limited to the trailtread and will be done using hand tools:
