Director NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality May 3, 2024 To: Joyce Dishmon Duke Energy (via email: Joyce.Dishmon@duke-energy.com) From: Cindy Moore Aquatic Toxicity Branch Subject: Biocide Use Review Duke Energy Progress, Inc. — Richmond County Combustion Turbine Plant NPDES # NCG500594 Richmond County Duke Energy Progress, Inc. has requested approval because they are changing vendors for the Sulfuric Acid from Brenntag to Southern States. These products will be discharged into Marks Creek. The use of Southern States -Sulfuric Acid (for pH control) within the cooling tower discharge is monitored by checking the pH parameter that is measured under the NPDES permit. This facility has not had any recorded exceedances of this parameter. The sulfuric acid dosage is maintained on an alarm system and will sound if anything is out of compliance. Therefore, use of Southern States -Sulfuric Acid as proposed at the Richmond County Combustion Turbine Plant is acceptable. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Cindy Moore at (919) 743-8422 or cindy.a.moore@deq.nc.gov. Sincerely, LVU uSigned by: AUbL 61A0057404B2...
