Mr Winston, See the feedback in red. 1. Thank you for providing plans showing the installation of 35 feet of granite boulders along the shoreline. Please also provide a measurement of how far these boulders or any other stabilization measures will extend into the lake. [15A NCAC 02H .0502(a)(9)] The 12-18" boulders will be placed against the existing shoreline and backfilled behind with small, approx 3-5" rip-rap. Effectively, the boulders' diameter will be the extent of the stabilization measures extending into the lake, 12-18" width total. 2. The Division requires that rip rap be installed waterward of any bulkheads to ensure that waves will not reflect off the bulkhead and cause impacts to other shorelines along the lake. Please clarify whether the granite boulders will be installed as a bulkhead or whether they will be left loose to act like rip rap. If they will be installed as a bulkhead, please provide measurements for the rip rap that will be placed waterward of the structure, including the distance it will extend into the lake. [15A NCAC 02H .0502(a)(9); 15A NCAC 02H .0506(b)(3)] Boulders will be just placed against the existing shoreline loosely to prevent further erosion/undermining of the shoreline soil. Let me know if any further clarification or information is needed. Many thanks.
