I am writing in response to the Notice of Violation letters dated June and September 2023,
received from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality regarding the
non-compliance Issue of phosphorus at our wastewater treatment plant in the Town of Snow
Hill. First and foremost, I want to assure you that the Town of Snow Hill Wastewater Plant
prioritizes the health and safety of the environment and the community we serve. We take all
regulatory matters seriously and are committed to addressing and rectifying any shortcomings
promptly.
The violation outlined In the notice was a result of a unforeseen industrial issue, which led to a
deviation from our standard operating procedures. We acknowledge the gravity of this violation
and have taken Immediate corrective actions to mitigate its impact. As part of our remediabon
efforts, we have Implemented a comprehensive plan, including the introduction of alum into our
wastewater treatment process which we will be using continuously. This proactive measure Is
designed to effectively address future instances of high phosphorus and ensure compliance with
all regulations moving forward.
Furthermore, we have reinforced our Internal monitoring and quality assurance protocols to
prevent similar Incidents from occurring in the future. We are dedicated to maintaining stringent
operational standards and continuously Improving our processes to safeguard the environment
and uphold regulatory compliance.
