NOTE
1. CONCRETE SHALL BE CLASS 3000 IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS OF
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION, LATEST EDITION. CONCRETE SHALL BE
"READY MIX" HAVING A 28 DAY COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF 3000 PSI AND BE AIR ENTRAINED.
2. SIDEWALK TO HAVE SCORING LINES (CONTRACTION JOINTS) AND EXPANSION JOINTS.
3. SIDEWALK SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS OF
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION, LATEST EDITION. SURFACE SHALL RECEIVE A
MEDIUM BROOM FINISH.
4. THE SUBGRADE SHALL BE THOROUGHLY COMPACTED TO 95 PERCENT OF THE STANDARD PROCTOR
DENSITY AND FINISHED TO A SMOOTH, FIRM SURFACE AND SHALL BE MOIST AT THE TIME THE CONCRETE IS

5. SIDEWALKS SHALL NOT CROSS DRIVEWAYS WITHOUT EXPRESS WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE CITY ENGINEER.
TYPICALLY, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE THE SIDEWALK. IF INSTALLING THE
DRIVEWAY AFTER THE SIDEWALK IS IN PLACE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SAW CUT AND REMOVE THE
SIDEWALK FOR THE FULL WIDTH OF THE DRIVEWAY SECTION.

TRENCHING, BORE PITS, AND/OR OTHER EXCAVATIONS SHALL NOT BE LEFT OPEN
OR UNSAFE OVERNIGHT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL OSHA
REQUIREMENTS AND PROVIDE A COMPETENT PERSON ON SITE TO SUPERVISE
EXCAVATION AT ALL TIMES.
BACK FILLING OF TRENCHES IS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED IMMEDIATELY AFTER
PLACEMENT OF PIPE. BACK FILL IS TO BE PLACED IN 6 INCH LAYERS OR LESS WITH
EACH LAYER BEING THOROUGHLY TAMPED AND COMPACTED. CARE MUST BE
EXERCISED TO THOROUGHLY COMPACT THE MATERIAL AROUND AND OVER THE
PIPE. EACH LAYER WILL BE COMPACTED TO A DENSITY OF 95% AS DETERMINED BY
AASHTO METHOD T-99, IF REQUIRED BY THE ROADWAY OWNER. TRENCH SOIL (OR
SUBSTITUTED MATERIAL) MUST BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING THE REQUIRED
COMPACTION.
VEGETATION COVER SHALL BE ESTABLISHED ON ALL DISTURBED AREAS IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE DIVISION OF ROADSIDE
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERS.
ALL MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP SHALL CONFORM TO THE NCDOT POLICY
FOR ACCOMMODATING UTILITIES ON HIGHWAY RIGHT OF WAYS.
ANY DRAINAGE STRUCTURE DISTURBED OR DAMAGED SHALL BE RESTORED TO ITS
ORIGINAL CONDITION AS DIRECTED BY THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORITY.
ALL DRIVEWAYS ALTERED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE RETURNED TO A STATE
COMPARABLE WITH THE CONDITION OF THE DRIVEWAYS PRIOR TO
CONSTRUCTION.

GENERAL NOTES
PROPER TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES, SIGNS, ETC. SHALL BE INSTALLED TO
ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST EDITION OF THE
MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES, (MUTCD). THIS
MANUAL IS VAILABLE ONLINE AT; HTTP://MUTCD.FHWA.DOT.GOV.
ALL LANES OF TRAFFIC ARE TO BE OPEN DURING THE HOURS OF 6.00AM
TO 9.00AM, AND FROM 4.00PM TO 7.00PM MONDAY THUR FRIDAY. TWO
WAY TRAFFIC WILL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.
INGRESS AND EGRESS SHALL BE MAINTAINED TO ALL BUSINESSES AND
DWELLINGS AFFECTED BY THE PROJECT.
ANY WORK REQUIRING EQUIPMENT OR PERSONNEL WITHIN 5' OF THE EDGE
ON ANY TRAVEL LANE OF AN UNDIVIDED FACILITY, AND WITHIN 10' OF THE
EDGE OF ANY TRAVEL LANE OF A DIVIDED FACILITY, SHALL REQUIRE A
LANE CLOSURE WITH APPROPRIATE TAPERS.
NO MATERIAL STORAGE SHALL BE ALLOWED ALONG THE SHOULDERS OF

MANHOLES AND/OR VAULTS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN THE DITCH LINE,
SIDE SLOPES OF THE DITCHES OR IN THE PAVEMENT.
ALL MANHOLES, SPLICE BOXES, AND/OR VAULTS WITHIN THE RIGHT OF
WAY SHALL BE OF A PRE- APPROVED DESIGN BY THE OWNER OF THE
ROADWAY.
PROPOSED TRAFFIC BEARING MANHOLES AND COVERS SHALL BE FLUSH
MOUNTED AND SHALL BE OF A NCDOT APPROVED DESIGN FOR HS-20
LOAD RATING.
ALL WORK TO BE PERFORMED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE
CODES OR REQUIREMENTS OF ANY REGULATING GOVERNMENT AGENCY,
EARTHLINK BUSINESS, AND THE RIGHT OF WAY GRANTOR.
