Lear Corporation - Duplin County
Dear Mr. Kegley, Ms. Perez:
This letter is in response to inform NCDEQ about Lear Corporation's (Lear) plan to address the
comments and findings in the April 23, 2024, Compliance Inspection Report. The following
actions are planned to address the findings:
Immediate action to be taken:
1) Inspect basin wall daily for "weep points" at the horizontal crack in the sludge basin
2) Clean out and patch repair (using hydraulic cement) any active weep points detected.
3) Lear has contracted with WSP, an environmental engineering firm to evaluate the
structural integrity of the sludge basin and to advise Lear of any immediate and longer -term
actions for improvements as needed..
4) Lear is planning to reduce the level in this tank, during our next scheduled shut down in
July 2024, for a visual inspection inside this tank. This will allow us to understand what
improvements may be required and allow for planning them accordingly.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Michael Cothran
