Stormwater Outfall 002
Ms. Eplin:
In accordance with General Permit NO. NCG020000 Vulcan Materials Company, LLC(Vulcan) is
submitting notification within the two weeks of receipt(March 9, 2023) of analytical results indicating
an exceedance of a benchmark value as outlined in Part F Table 2 and Section F-5. In this case our
Outfall 002 turbidity results indicated a result of 53.8 NTU.
Vulcan is in the process of implementing the Tier One response requirements for turbidity exceedance,
in as detailed in Part F,Table 5 of General Permit No. NCG020000. On March 16, 2023, Marty Taylor of
Vulcan and myself attempted to identify and evaluate the possible causes of the benchmark
exceedance on March 2, 2023. From this evaluation,we believe that the source of the higher turbidity
may have been the result of leaf litter, debris, and sediment. Runoff from this area is controlled through
the use of check dams, storm drainage pipes leading to the Outfall. Vulcan has removed the debris and
sediment build up around a storm drain inlet and rock check dam. The facility plans to take another
sample during the next qualified storm event.
Documentation of all responses and corrective actions performed in accordance with the Tier One '
requirements for turbidity will be maintained with the facility's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.
