NCG020000 Vulcan Materials Company, LLC(Vulcan) is submitting notification within the two weeks of receipt(June 20, 2023) of analytical results indicating an exceedance of a benchmark value as outlined in Part F Table 2 and Section F-5. In this case our Outfall 001 turbidity results indicated a result of 72.2 NTU. Vulcan is in the process of implementing the Tier One response requirements for turbidity exceedance, in as detailed in Part F,Table 5 of General Permit No. NCG020000. On June 29, 2023, Robert Slade, Brooks Morrison of Vulcan and myself attempted to identify and evaluate the possible causes of the benchmark exceedance on June 7, 2023. From this evaluation, we believe that the source of the higher turbidity may have been from the series of rock check dams within the pit. Pit water is controlled through the use of check dams, leading the pit sump. Vulcan will removing the sediment build up around the inlet and rock check dams. The facility plans to take another sample once work has been completed. Documentation of all responses and corrective actions performed in accordance with the Tier One requirements for turbidity will be maintained with the facility's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.
