Describe the attachments or comments: As work continues to repair the sandbag alignment on Ocracoke, NCDOT is finding more and more damaged sandbags in the existing alignment. Our engineers now estimate another 400 sandbags will be required to replace the existing damaged sandbags. NCDOT requests the RGP 48 for the project be amended again with the revised typical attached. The existing alignment continues to be approx. 6,320 linear feet and approximately 400 more sandbags would be required for the repairs with the locations as needed. The total number of sandbags would increase to 2,100, and the total volume of sand from the swash zone for the 2,100 sandbags would increase to 11,760 cubic yards. The area of impact would remain the same for the sand pumping to fill the additional 400 sandbags, but the volume would increase to a total of 11,760 cubic yards. The environmentally sensitive areas would be avoided during pumping operations, and the ESA alignments have been marked on the highway and/or the existing exposed sandbags. NCDOT would continue to coordinate with NPS staff (Will Thompson at (252)216-9237) to verify if nesting activity is occurring in the vicinity of the work zone. Damage to existing dune vegetation would be avoided.
