Enclosed are an original and two copies of the renewal application for the above referenced
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the Associated Asphalt
facility in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The only changes at the facility since the last permit issuance are the addition of a Polymer
Modified Asphalt (PMA) mixing operation which occurs inside a building and the addition of
several PMA storage tanks. There are no discharges associated with these facility changes.
Note the renewal application contains the following:
• NPDES Permit Application — Short Form C
• A map showing outfall location (no change from current permit)
• A Sludge Management Statement

No wastewater is generated besides a small quantity of boiler blowdown and condensate
which flows to the retention pond if not evaporated. Stormwater is discharged from the
retention pond. No treatment occurs.

Briefly describe the manufacturing process(es):
Liquid asphalt is received by rail tank car, pumped into bulk storage tanks, and transferred into
trucks when sold. Mixing of asphalt products and additives occurs as a minor activity. A natural
gas/ No. 2 oil -fired boiler and three hot oil heaters supply heat to the liquid asphalt tanks to maintain
temperature and prevent hardening of the material.

ASSOCIATED ASPHALT GREENSBORO, LLC
ADDITION TO NPDES PERMIT RENEWAL PACKAGE
PERMIT NUMBER NCO074241
This facility does not generate sludge from the collection and handling of stormwater
runoff nor from any wastewater treatment process, as there are no such systems on
site.
Stormwater is collected in the retention pond which has a manually controlled valve
through which runoff is released as stated on the enclosed renewal application.
