Solids are belt filter pressed and are hauled to the Whiteoak landfill for ulmate disposial. The treated wastewater is discharged into the Pigeon River on Richland Creek Road under permit number NC0025321. Summery of Violaons During 2023 The Town of Waynesville WWTP was issued on going noce of violaons for 11 months of the year. This is due to shallow secdonary clarifiers. This leads to a poorly setling sludge that escapes the chlorine contact basin as parally treated effluent. Work is well under way for the first upgrade in 20 plus years. Harper General Contractors are construcng a new primary filter system, upgraded aeraon basin with new blowers , improved secondary clarifier sludge removal with 4 feet of added depth. This will greatly improve the WWTP treatment efficency and place us back in compliance with the state.
