Box 35 Lake Junaluska, NC 28745 828-452-1178 www.jsdwater.org Annual Sewer Report for 2023 Junaluska Sanitary District — Collection System: Junaluska Sanitary District (JSD) is a sewer collection system and is a satellite system to the Town of Waynesville's Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Town of Clyde is a satellite system to JSD. The collection system consists of sewer lines, pump stations, and all the appurtenances that convey the wastewater from the residents and businesses as well as the Town of Clyde to the Town of Waynesville's wastewater treatment plant. All of the wastewater generated and collected by JSD is treated at the Waynesville treatment plant located at 566 Walnut Trail Rd. Waynesville, NC 28745. This report summarizes the performance of JSD's collection system. General Information: Facility Name: Junaluska Sanitary District Collection System Permit #: WQCS00182 ORC (Operator in Charge): David Ward (as of 3.20.24), Water & Sewer Supervisor Back-up ORC: James Stinnett JSD Engineer: Jeffrey Brown, P.E., MCE (Brown Consultants) ORC Contact Info: 828-452-1178 / dward@jsdwater.org Svstem Information: Total Miles of Pipe: 34 (29.1 Gravity + 4.9 Force Main) Miles of Pipe Cleaned: 4.5 (23,873 ft) Inspected (MH's & Pipe): Entire System Observed: Entire System Notes: • JSD was awarded an AIA Grant through the State Revolving Fund for GIS mapping of our entire system. Throughout the year has inspected and documented our entire sewer system in order to record location, material, depth and pertinent information of all our MH's and lines. During this process for each item (MH's and Lines) that needed work, repair or cleaning we generated work orders. The crew came behind the inspection and performed the work for our entire system. This information was recorded in our Sewer System record books. In addition, we are working and being trained on the GIS system to record certain pertinent information in the actual GIS software. • JSD was awarded a grant through The Community Foundation of WNC, the Pigeon River Fund to repair and improve manholes along the Pigeon River within our District. Through this grant, JSD is rehabilitating approximately 30 manholes by waterproofing (seal/wrap), replacing cones and replacing rings and lids. • During 2023, JSD has implemented a new SCADA software for our entire system (Water and Sewer). With this project we have installed a new monitoring that allows us to remotely observe and monitor our 3 sewer pump stations. The SCADA gives our crew, the staff and on -call person the capability to see the pump station operation on our laptops, crew iPad and cell phones. The system sends out notifications and alarms to our cell phones. This includes power, high levels and any system related issues. If the SCADA system goes down or offline, it will automatically send a text to inform our operation that the system is down. JSD has implemented a procedure that when an alarm for the sewer pump stations goes off, the on -call crew member is required to visit the site immediately. Wastewater Conveyance and Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO): During the calendar year of 2023, over millions of gallons of wastewater was collected and conveyed to the Waynesville wastewater treatment plant. JSD had one (1) SSO during the year totaling 13,845 gallons that was reported to NCDEQ. The SSO gallons per month were as follows: 2023 Month # of SSO Total Gals Gals to Surface Water January 0 0 0 February 1 13,845 12,500 March 0 0 0 April 0 0 0 May 0 0 0 June 0 0 0 July 0 0 0 August 0 0 0 September 0 0 0 October 0 0 0 November 0 0 0 December 0 0 0 ORC: i Date: ll• 2
