The Town of Canton experienced a SSO at 145 Pigeon Street on February 21, 2024. The initial
cause of the SSO was reported to be debris in the sewer line. After submission of the initial
report and a follow up investigation, a float in the lift station downstream was found to be faulty.
This float has since been replaced and the pump station is fully functional. Mitigation for cleanup
was performed as cleaning the area, broadcasting lime, and covering with straw. The Town of
Canton will be updating the SOP for the lift stations to include more scheduled inspections on lift
