Subject: Modification of 4111 Water Quality Certification for DWQ Project No. 20061059, NC 97,
Edgecombe Cotenty, MA04009, for the widening of NC Hwy 97
Dear Mr. Ridings:
Please find enclosed modified pemlit drawings for the above referenced project. NCDOT requests that
the retaining waE1 be replaced with rip-rap at Site 1 as indicated in the permit drawings. Due to the site's
steep slopes, rip-rap at this location will provide a more stable slope and prevent washing that is
currently occurring. Also the footer of the retaining wall on the inlet side of the culvert would impact a
water line. Therefore rip-rap is a rr~ore viable option.
NCDOT requests that the 401 Water Quality Certification for the above referenced project be modified
to reflect the changes in, the permit drawings. If more information is needed, please contact Mr_ Jamie
