It took me a little over a month to get a surveyor to come out the second time then time to put together the elevations on a file. I wish Michael Burkhart (Dept of Environmental Quality) who visited the site would have told me to gather these elevations from the surveyor and it would have saved time and money for another visit from the survey company. I have included the septic permit showing the septic repair area, unfortunately the plan doesn't show elevations or the actual distance from our house. You will also see the revised plan with the square footage listed for the patio and the walkway steps. We were told by Michael Burkhart we had to space out the stone steps so it would be permeable, so that is the plan. We also plan to stop the stone swale at the 50' buffer mark and allow to dissipate into native grasses. The photos attached are examples of what the 3'x1.5' natural stone steps will look like, but this is not our layout obviously. The plan is to use mulch to stabilize the area until native vegetation takes root. We were advised to do this by Michael Burkhart with DEQ. Patio / fireplace Sq Footage = 725 sq feet Stone Steps are 4.5 sq ft each x 18 = 81 sq feet Please note all dock and sitting area by the water are pre-existing from the mid-1990s and no change there. As far as an explanation as to why they couldn't locate the patio closer to the house is due to the septic repair area. Unfortunately, at this point of the build process the patio is almost complete and would not really be feasible to alter the design/construction. This is where our contractor should have known in my opinion but there again, we hired them to do the job. It does look very nice what they did. Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you need any additional information and I will do my best to expedite it. Please call to discuss if need be. I hope and pray this is sufficient and we can continue with finishing this project. Legible map with more details. You will need to provide the survey of the land including the 760' contour, Zone 1 (30') and Zone 2 ( 50') buffers. Please provide these on your map that includes the fireplace/patio and the restoration plan. 2. Please provide all measurements of your patio (sqft in Zone 1, sqft in Zone 2, total sqft). Please also include the sqft of the steps/walkway that is shown on your drawing. Are those preexisting and approved or are you asking to have those approved as well? What material are they made from? 3. 1 will need the sqft of the dock if any is located above the 760'. 4. Please show on your map where the septic field is and dimensions. 5. Explanation of why the patio/fireplace could not be put in the "lawn area" or the area closer to the house that would be outside of Zone 1 and possibly Zone 2. According to the map you provided there seems to be a large area where a patio could be placed that would not impact the buffer or would minimally impact the buffer. 6. Explanation of why the included plan cannot be practically accomplished, reduced, relocated, or reconfigured to avoid or better minimize disturbance to the riparian buffer, preserve aquatic life and habitat, and protect water quality. 7. Plans for any best management practices proposed to be used to control the impacts associated with the activity. 8. Sgft of the stone swell that is in the riparian buffer. Does this stone swell already exist or are you requested this in your application? Please review the Catawba River Basin Buffer 15A NCAC 02B .0614 regarding stormwater runoff through the riparian buffer. ] i 1 STORMWATLR RUNOFF THROUGH THE RIPARIAN. BUFFER. Stortuwater runoff into the riparian buffer shall meet dispersed flow as defined in 15A NCAC 02H .l 002 except as otherwise described in this Item. Drainage conveyances include drainage ditches, roadside ditches, and stormwater conveyances. The following stormwater conveyances through the riparian buffer are either deemed allowable or allowable upon auw.horization, as defined in Sub -Item (9)(a) of this Rule, provided that they do not erode through [lie riparian buffer and do not cause erasion to the receiving waterbody. Stormwater conveyances through the riparian buffer that are not listed below shall be allowable with exception as defined in Sub -Item (9)(a)(v) of this Rule: (a) The fallowing are deemed allowable as defined in Sub -Item (9)(a)(i) of this Rule- (i) New drainage conveyances from a primary SCM, as defined in 15A NCAC 02H .1002, lAien the Primary SCM is designed to treat the drainage area to the conveyance and that comply with a stormwater management plan reviewed and approved under a state stormwater program or a state -approved local government stormwater program, and (ii) New stormwater flaw to existing drainage conveyances provided that the addition of new flow does not result in the need to alter the conveyance. (b) The following are allowable upon authorization as defined in Sub -Item (9)(aXii) of this Rule: (i) New drainage conveyances from a Primary SCM as defined in 15A NCAC G2H .1002 when the Primary SCM is provided to treat the drainage area to the conveyance but are not required to be approved under a state stonnwater program or a state -approved local government stormwater program; (ii) New drainage conveyances when the flaw rate of the conveyance is less than 0.5 cubic feet per second during the peak flaw fr.orn the G.75 inch per hour storm; (iii) New stormwater runoff that has been treated through a level spreader -filter strip that complies with 15A NCAC 02H .1059; (iv) Realignment of existing roadside drainage conveyances applicable to publicly funded and maintained linear transportation facilities when retaining or improving the design dimensions provided that no additional travel lanes are added and the minimum required roadway typical section is used based on traffic and safety considerations; (v) Realignment of existing drainage conveyances retaining or improving the design dimensions provided that the size of the drainage area and the percent built -upon area within the drainage area remain the same; (vi) New or altered drainage conveyances applicable to publicly funded and maintained linear transportation facilities provided that SCMs, or BMPs from the NC'DOT Stormwater Best Management Practices Toolbox. are employed; (vii) New drainage conveyances applicable to publicly funded and maintained linear transportation facilities that do not provide a stormwater management facility due to topography constraints provided other measures are employed to protect downstream water quality to the maximum extent practical; and (viii) New drainage conveyances where the drainage area to the conveyance has no new built -upon area as defined in 15A NCAC 02H .1002 and the conveyance is necessary for bypass of existing drainage only.
