General Project Narrative:
(Description of Minimization of Water
Quality Impacts)
The R-5711 project is focused on improving the intersection at US 21 and SR 1312 (Flower House Loop)/SR 2375 (Houston Road). Grass swales have been incorporated in roadside ditches, where
possible, to reduce the velocity and promote the infiltration of runoff. Riprap at pipe outlets, ditches, and streambanks has been incorporated to minimize erosion on slopes where vegetation will not
be adequate. NCDOT standards for ground cover, vegetation, and slope stabilization will be adhered to during the life of this project, and will be specified in the NCDOT Erosion and Sediment
Control Plan for the project.

Additional Comments
Swales with a 4:1 front slope and 2:1 back slope were assumed acceptable by averaging the two slopes, resulting in 3:1 side slopes. In these instances, 3:1 side slopes were input above.
