Dear Ms. Manuel,
Carolina Water Service, Inc. of NC (CWSNC) is in receipt of the above -mentioned Notice of Violation dated
October loth and provides additional information below.
CWSNC had a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) event on January 29th. The cause of the January 29th SSO of 1,500
gallons to Lake Trace was caused by roots in the manhole at 4047 Maple Circle. CWSNC was notified by a customer at
9:00 AM that a manhole was overflowing. The SSO was confirmed, and a contractor called onsite. Roots were removed
from the manhole to clear the blockage and normal flow returned at 11:30 AM.
The area was cleaned/limed, and the surrounding lines were inspected to evaluate other potential problems.
The manhole was last cleaned in November 2017, as part of our 10% yearly cleaning program. The manhole has been
scheduled for rehab in February 2024. Samples were collected at the spill site, upstream, and downstream. No fish kill
occurred. No environmental impact or impact to public health was noted.
CWSNC had one project in progress for the Carolina Trace Collection System completed in 2023. The project
included point repairs, lining, and video inspection for I&I issues throughout the system.
