Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary) On March 7th, 2024, Ron Boone, of the Winston-Salem Regional Office of the NC Division of Water Resources, conducted a compliance evaluation inspection of your single family wastewater treatment system. Thank you for assisting Mr. Boone in completing the inspection. The inspection results are summarized below: You were not available to be present during the inspection but you informed Mr. Boone by phone prior to the inspection that the septic tank is pumped as needed. Mr. Boone reminded you it should be pumped no less frequently than every five years according to the permit. Pumping records were not readily available during the inspection. The permit also requires that you keep records of when you have the tank pumped. No chlorine was available for evaluation during the inspection. The chlorinator was accessible but there appeared there was no chlorine in it at the time. You should keep each chlorinator tube stocked with two to three tablets at all times. Also, be sure you are using the correct type of chlorine. You must use chlorine tablets suitable for use in disinfection of wastewater. Their main ingredient must be 60 to 70 percent of calcium hypochlorite and they are about 2-5/8" in diameter and 1" thick. We have attached information to assist you in finding the proper type of chlorine. Mr. Boone was not able to locate the discharge pipe during his inspection but you indicated over the phone that you know where it is. Samples of the effluent have not been collected and analyzed as required by the permit. You also informed Mr. Boone that you have never seen it discharge. For your information, pursuant to Part I.C.(1.) of the general permit (Page 3), you are required to have the effluent tested annually for the constituents listed in Part I.C.(1.) by a NC state certified laboratory. We have also included a list of NC certified laboratories along with this inspection report. If you can't collect a sample because you cannot catch it discharging, then no analyes are required. You are technically non -compliant with the permit.
