Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary) On March 7th, 2024, Ron Boone, of the Winston-Salem Regional Office of the NC Division of Water Resources, conducted a compliance evaluation inspection of your single family wastewater treatment system. Thank you for assisting Mr. Boone in completing the inspection. The inspection results are summarized below: During the inspection you informed Mr. Boone that the home is not occupied year round and that the septic tank is pumped as needed. Mr. Boone reminded you it should be pumped no less frequently than every five years according to the permit. Pumping records were not readily available during the inspection. The permit also requires that you keep records of when you have the tank pumped. You did not have any chlorine at the house at the time of the inspection due to a flood that destroyed your last bucket of tablets. You should keep each chlorinator tube stocked with two to three tablets at all times. Also, be sure you are using the correct type of chlorine. You must use chlorine tablets suitable for use in disinfection of wastewater. Their main ingredient is 60 to 70 percent of calcium hypochlorite and they are about 2-5/8" in diameter and 1" thick. We have attached information to assist you in finding the proper type of chlorine. You informed Mr. Boone that you have not been able to locate the end of the discharge pipe and have never taken samples of the effluent as required by the permit. Mr. Boone gave you some ideas as to how to find the discharge pipe, such as using plumber's dye or hiring a plumbing contractor to use mechanical and/or pipe tracing equipment to locate the end of the discharge pipe. Pursuant to Part I.C.(1.) of the general permit (Page 3), you are required to have the effluent tested annually for the constituents listed in Part I.C.(1.) by a NC state certified laboratory. We have also included a list of NC certified laboratories along with this inspection report. You are technically non -compliant with the permit.
